Snowboard Sizing Guide

What is the right Snowboard Size for me?

Choosing the right snowboard size can be difficult. Often opinions vary on how long or how short to go. Here at Melbourne Snowboard Centre we have come up with a simple solution to finding your perfect board size.

The first 3 things you always want to consider is your:Height , Weight, and Where You Spend your Time Riding.

Most companies give a recommended rider weight for each snowboard. We have tried to include this data on all of our snowboard pages to make it easier for you to find the right board.

Height & Weight :

For the average sized rider a board comes up to around chin height. However if you are tall and skinny you would ride a board shorter and if you are short and muscular you might want to ride something longer. This is why we always recommend choosing a board size based on weight rather than height alone.

Conditions/Where You Ride:

This is important because some styles of riding require longer or shorter boards. If you spend more time in the park it is helpful to size down slightly to make quicker turns, faster spins and have more control while buttering through boxes and rails. If you prefer chasing powder and traveling overseas you may want a slightly longer board. The added surface area will help you float above the snow much like a surfboard in water. Typically for the average rider in Australia we recommend a slightly smaller board compared to what we might recommend to someone traveling overseas.

Below we have made a chart that will assist you in figuring out what snowboard size is right for you. As long as you fit inside the board size range you shouldn’t notice too much of a difference:

Skis Size Chart

Free-Ski Sizing Chart

Choosing the right ski length is particularly important and makes a huge difference to the way your planks will ride. The various factors influencing your decision include a) your Height, b) your Weight and c) your Age.

  • The following guidelines should help you establish the right length for your height:
  • If you’re a little stud there’s nothing stopping you from going for a longer pair of skis. Generally, your skis should be longer the more you weigh.
  • If you weigh more than the average for your height go for a longer ski
  • When it comes to age, it’s worth considering how much more your body is likely to develop. If you’ve still got a lot of growing to do you’re also likely to get a bit more powerful so it’s worth making sure you don’t get a pair you’ll have grown out of halfway through the season.

Snowboard Boot Sizing

How Should Snowboard Boots Fit ?

Snowboard Boot Fit

Normally we recommend ordering the same size boots as your street shoes. This is because boots that are too big can be just as painful as boots that are too small. When we have customers who complain about snowboarding foot trouble, 9 times out of 10 the issue is boots that are too big. This can be easily solved by using 2 pairs or big puffy snowboard socks. If your foot has too much room inside the boot every time your turn or jump your foot will slam forward into the end of your boot which can result in bruised toenails and eventually the loss of those toenails.

Fitting of my snowboard boots?

The perfect fitting boots will feel tight when you first put them on. Unlike rental boots your foot is the only foot that has ever been in this boot and it generally takes a couple days of riding before your boots mold into the shape of your foot. It is much better to be uncomfortable for those first days rather than miserable for the lifetime of your boots. Boots can be heat molded to help speed up this molding process.

How tight should my snowboard boots feel?

When you first get your boots, put them on and lace them up tight. This will help pull your foot all the way back into the heel of the boot and give your toes more room. Standing up straight you should be able to feel the end of the boot with your toes but it shouldn’t be jammed into the front. As you squat down flexing your knees and pushing your shins into the front of your boot so that your boot actually flexes your toes should pull back ever so slightly. This squatted position should be the same position that you snowboard in. If your boots fit well even after your toes pull back you should be able to just feel the end of the boot without any pressure.  Over the next couple days of riding your boots will pack out a half a size and give you the comfortable fit that you want.

Some customers may choose to ride with an even tighter fit for better control. We recommend doing this if you plan on riding at least 20 or more days a year. Any less and you will be suffering more than you need to.

Things Not Covered under Warranty

We have all watched the X-Games and know how aggressive these sports are. Snowboarding, Skiing, Wakeboarding, and Skateboarding are considered to be aggressive and violent sports in nature. Often times these sports are of  very high impact and stress to the product. Now days, boards sports are involved in jumping, grinding, bonking, and sliding on rails, trees and more. This type of activity is very hard on these products and is not covered under any warranty. Below are more examples of what is not covered under any circumstances.

1. Excessive scratches and/or gouges.

This is a tell tale sign that a board was abused. Excessive scratches and/or gouges on products is the sign of an aggressive rider that is pushing there product to the limit and grinding on metal rails, rocks, boxes, stumps, curbs, others running into/over you Etc. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

2. Board /Ski on Object Impact

This is a tell tale sign that a board was abused. When back country riding off the groomed trail you will often have gouge marks from rocks, dirt ,trees and stumps. Also riding pre or late season when there is rock exposure and very little snow coverage. The result of this impact is usually bottom/ base gouges, missing P-Tex, edge bending, or a separation of your edges away from the board. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

3. Board on Board Impact (Head on Collision)

We have all had that beginner run into us as they were trying to get off the chair lift. There are many tip to tail collisions when getting on and off the chair lifts. The easiest way to identify this type of damage is by the contact marks that are made from someone else’s edges. When another board runs into you board/ ski it can cause serious damage to your product including: scratches, bending, denting, rolling, or the edge completely separating from the board. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

4. Nose/Tail Dive Breaks

This is a common result when jumping and not landing on center. The nose or tail pitchforks into the snow as your landing and snaps/breaks from high impact. Boards/skis are not designed to flex this way and as result will break. This abuse is very easy to identify as breaks are usually above the bindings. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

5. Jumping

Damage as a result of jumping is going to happen. If you like your board/skis you may want to stay away from the big kicker jumps. Todays advanced board/skis are designed tough and will not break unless under high impact landing on jumps.Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

6. Boot / Binding Fraying

The rails on skis and snowboard are tuned to be razor sharp.Tears in boots are often when other riders run into you. Fraying of your boots/ laces and bindings is common in the industry. Especially, in snowboarding when you have to take your back foot out of the binding to get on the chair lift. Its comfortable and common for people to rest there board or skis on top of your other boot/binding. This is a great foot rest but comes with a price. This can cause fraying & ripping of the laces and tops of boots & bindings. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

7. Loose & Lost Parts / Hardware

You have 48 hours to notify us of any lost of missing parts from your order. Inspect your items as soon as you receive your shipment. Parts, hardware, accessories that were lost or have gone missing AFTER receiving your shipment are not covered. Maintenance is important on all board/ski sports. Screws and parts will come loose over time and you are responsible for maintenance. Screws, discs, bolts, straps, and parts that are lost  because of neglect are also not covered. It is important to tighen and tune your products every time you ride. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

8. Normal Wear & Tear

Normal wear resulting from standard usage that occurs over time. Clear coating chipping- This is the clear protect layer on top of the snowboard deck top sheet. This is NOT delamination and is common when you get a few scratches on your board/skis. Sun fading over time is also common with most products.Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage.

9. Blemished, Seconds & Used

New items sold "AS IS" ,Blemished, Scratch and dent, Seconds. Used items are never under warranty.
All items here are sold as is, in the condition listed..Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of Item.

We triple-check everything: less than 1% of our orders are rejected. We’ve automated many processes that our competitors do manually (Online ordering, billing, e-mails, chat, notifications, returns, outsourcing etc.) This all saves you money!

No useless frills: we don’t have Million Dollar penthouse offices like other failed dot.coms out there. Our employees are intelligent and highly trained —  We also bonus our employees based on the performance of the company overall — they are paid for performance.

Thirdly, We Tell the Truth:

Our clients are refreshed when they see that we actually tell them what they really need. Our help Desk is stacked with great info on what is nessesary.

While most of our competitors spend a lot of money on advertising and marketing gimmicks, our philosophy is that we’d rather improve the customer experience and rely on word-of-mouth and repeat business.

Snowboard Sizing Guide

What is the right Snowboard Size for me?

Choosing the right snowboard size can be difficult. Often opinions vary on how long or how short to go. Here at Winter-Warehouse we have come up with a simple solution to finding your perfect board size.

Skis Size Charts

Ski Sizing Chart

Normally we recommend ordering the same size boots as your street shoes. This is because boots that are too big can be just as painful as boots that are too small. When we have customers who complain about snowboarding foot trouble, 9 times out of 10 the issue is boots that are too big. This can be easily solved by using 2 pairs or big puffy snowboard socks. If your foot has too much room inside the boot every time your turn or jump your foot will slam forward into the end of your boot which can result in bruised toenails and eventually the loss of those toenails.

So how should your boots fit?

The perfect fitting boots will feel tight when you first put them on. Unlike rental boots your foot is the only foot that has ever been in this boot and it generally takes a couple days of riding before your boots mold into the shape of your foot. It is much better to be uncomfortable for those first days rather than miserable for the lifetime of your boots. Boots can be heat molded to help speed up this molding process.

So how tight should your snowboard boots feel?

Determine your size from the chart by choosing the larger of the two measurement results.

How to measure:

Palm girth: Around your dominant hand at the knuckles with your fingers together

Palm length: From the crease at the base of your wrist (on palm side) to the tip of your middle finger

Helmet Size Chart

Note- These are just general guidelines, and we can never guarantee fit. There are so many different helmet companies, please refer to the size and cm listed on the item page for the best fit. You can never compare the helmet you own now to a new helmet your are ordering.

As a rule of thumb, your helmet should sit tight, without causing pressure points. If your helmet is too large it can slip during a fall. To make sure that doesn't happen, allow us to help you find the optimal size. You may also want to factor in , if you are going to wear a skull cap or beanie under your helmet? Then allow for more room in the helmet.

Helmet sizes are given in XS, S, M, L, and XL, as determined by the head circumference (in cm). Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows with a tape measure and note down the measurement. As every brand has a slightly different fit, it's important to check each respective size chart.

10. Bags / Gloves / Clothing Rips & Fraying

The rails on skis and snowboard are tuned to be razor sharp.Tears in Gloves and  Ski/Snowboard bags are common. If you slide your board/skis on your clothing, gloves or bags they will be sliced like a razor through paper. This can happen when grabbing you rails when jumping or jamming your board into you bag to quickly. Its always best to wrap your rails with a towel before sliding into the protective bag.  Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover this type of damage

Goofy Vs. Regular Foot – What does it mean?

No, this is not something from Disney. Regular means your left foot is in front while goofy means your right foot is in front.

Whether you’re goofy or regular has nothing to do with whether you’re right- or left-handed.  Not sure which you are? Let someone give you a push from behind – the leg you make your first step with is usually the dominant leg. Remember, once you get good you will be able to ride both ways.

Bindings Size. What is the right size for me ?

Bindings will be ordered related to you boots size. Snowboard Bindings will have a size range, for instance "fits mens-6-9" means those bindings will fit sizes 6 through 9 in mens boots. Please use chart to determine which bindings will fit your boot size. All sizes are in US sizes. This is a general guideline for sizing, please refer to the actual product page of the item you are purchasing. You will see a drop down for boots and bindings if you are buying a snowboard. After the make, gender, and model it will say the size range it fits.

Foot Forward - Which foot should be forward when riding ?

In most cases, your dominant leg should be in front while your opposite leg should be in the back. The would be common in the beginning of your snowboard progression. After you get advanced you will be riding you board “Switch” or both ways.  Tip -- Here are some tips on how to determine your dominant leg:1. Let someone give you a push from behind – the leg you make your first step with is usually the dominant leg. 2. Find a smooth surface, run and slide along it. You will instinctively put one of your legs in front. This will be your front leg. 3. Step up on a chair. Your dominant leg will take the first step. 4. The leg you would kick a ball with is your opposite/back leg. 5. The leg that you gain momentum with when jumping is your opposite/back leg.

Boot Flex, How important is it ?

This depends on your individual riding style. A higher flex rating means that the boot is on the stiffer side. A lower flex rating means it’s more soft. Most of the boots we sell are in the medium flex range and have the best of both worlds. (Example Symbolic Ultra-lite Boots). Generally you could say that advanced riders, especially those with who ride aggressively tend to choose stiffer boots, as they offer more precision and response. Beginners and Freestyle riders will want softer boots, since these are more comfortable and offer more freedom of movement. If you feel like your old boots (those that have been ridden for 2-3 seasons) are too loose or find yourself sliding around in them, they’ve probably become somewhat worn out. This is the time to replace them, or else you’ll be compromising good performance and comfort. A boot that’s too loose can even lead to injuries if you’re unlucky.

How should my boots Fit / Feel ?

How to wax a snowboard ?

You should wax your snowboard regularly so that the base doesn’t dry out. An added bonus is that you’ll have much less trouble gaining speed when you want it. If you wax it regularly, your board will thank you and you’ll have fun with it for longer! If your board has big grayish-white areas on the base it’s about time to wax it!
Waxing a board is in fact quite easy, and possible for everyone to do at home! Waxing application requires an iron that maintains its temperature well. Typical home irons have a lot of temperature fluctuation, so ski-waxing irons are recommended.

  1. Power up the iron. The temperature should be lower for softer/warmer wax and higher for harder/colder wax. The approximate iron temperature is often printed on the wax box.
  2. Hold a chunk of wax against the base of the iron and let it drip onto the ski or snowboard as it melts. Hold the iron 2-to-4 inches above the ski or snowboard base and move it from tip to tail and side to side, letting the molten wax droplets cover the base completely.
  3. Place the iron on the ski or snowboard base and spread the wax over the entire base until a layer of wax coats the whole surface. Don't hold the iron in one place for too long, as this could cause the base to blister. Make sure that the wax melts all the way across the ski or snowboard, from edge to edge and tip to tail. If an area is too dry, add more wax. The wax layer should be thin enough that one end dries as you reach the other end.
  4. Wait for the ski or snowboard to cool and dry completely (30 minutes to 1 hour). Don't cool the ski or board outside because that will cause the wax to get pushed back up out of the pores of the base.

Scraping and Brushing

  1. Using a plastic (not metal) scraper, scrape the base from tip to tail, removing excess wax in overlapping, continuous strokes. You are finished when the base of the ski or board is nearly free of visible wax. Wax will remain in the pores of the base.
  2. Make sure to scrape the metal edges of the ski or snowboard. Some plastic scrapers have a small notch for this purpose.
  3. Brush the base to bring out the structure or texture of the base, which increases your speed. Brushes vary based on size, stiffness and material. A stiff, nylon brush is a good all-purpose choice. Brush from tip to tail, using about 15-20 strokes.

Used / Rental Items – What Condition are they in ?

Depending on model and style of the Item, they will have been ridden more or less as our rentals. These will likely show some wear, but this shouldn’t change their riding properties. Normal wear and tear Board shows typical signs of wear from previous use. You should expect some cosmetic scuffing/scratching throughout that is commonly seen on used boards. These also may also have writing or ID tags used for tracking. Being rental items they are built tough, stronger than average boards to last longer.  We inspect every board prior to shipping to make sure there is no significant damage. Im many cases these products were made extra tough in the factory to with stand the toughest conditions. The reduced price and flawless functionality of our Used items means you get optimum value for your money!

Rocker Vs. Camber - What is it ?

Camber Vs. Rocker Explained

Traditional Camber:

For decades snowboards were manufactured solely with traditional camber design, and cambered boards are still a popular choice. When placed on a flat surface, a cambered board has an uplifted waist (midsection) while its contact points rest on the ground near its tail and nose. This area where the board arcs upward is known as camber. This provides springiness (or pop) and also gives a good edge for control. This allows for a very controlled turn especially on groomed runs. Cambered boards are popular with riders who: • enjoy going fast • frequently ride groomed slopes • prefer a responsive, stable board that can handle hard snow

Rocker or Reverse Camber: aka Flat

Rocker is a subtle concave or arcing profile that curves upward. Picture a mildly kinked U or V shape when the board is laid on a flat surface. Rocker allows for more float and a looser ride. Rocker and reverse camber boards are great for powder, presses, a forgiving ride, and quick responsive direction changes in the park. The design essentially reduces pressure at the contact points by bringing it inward and closer to your feet. Forum’s Chilly Dog, Mervin’s Banana, and Ride’s Low Rize all are examples of reverse camber technologies.

Hybrid Cam Rock Rocker:AKA W-Rocker, S Rocker, Amptek

Hybrid Cam Rock Rocker essentially provides the best of both worlds. With rocker between your feet combined with positive camber at each end of the board. Or, positive camber between your bindings and rocker outside of them. What this does is give you the advantages of a rocker board while still maintaining the stability and control of a cambered board.

Camber Rocker Combination: AKA W-Camber / Banana Camber

The Camber Rocker Combination design includes two sections of camber directly below each foot. This takes traditional camber to a whole new level of responsiveness and control. Whether weight is distributed evenly, or more to one foot this board will strongly grip the mountain. Great for high speeds on groomed runs with precision control

Beginners - What Gear is good to have as a beginner ?

Board, Boots and Bindings:

As a beginner, you should make sure your board has the right length and the specs of the board are beginner friendly. Generally the board should reach somewhere between your chest and nose.  Furthermore, as a beginner you should avoid getting a stiffer board as they are harder to turn at slow speeds. A softer flex tends to be much easier on slow turns, as well as much more forgiving towards mistakes. This means that the board offers all the assistance possible on learning snowboarding.
To have an easier time learning to ride backwards (a.k.a. fakie/switch), twin tip boards are recommended.
Soft  to Medium boots are also recommended for beginners, since they offer more comfort and freedom of movement. A pair of bindings should match the board in terms of flex, size/shape and must fit your boot size as well. Our size charts can provide some orientation when needed.

Protection/Pads
To avoid painful falls, protection (Wrist guards, helmets, impact shorts or vests, knee guards etc.) is something you should definitely consider – not just if you’re a beginner! Wearing a helmet is especially important, and helmets should be part of everyone’s basic equipment. Back protectors are also a good investment, just as gloves with integrated wrist guards. Beginners tend to have a lot of hand contact with the snow while getting up, sitting down or bracing a fall, which can cause wrists to sprain and sometimes even break.

Further Equipment
Stomp pads , Tools and board leashes are a very smart investment if you want to learn riding lifts safely and don’t want your board to ride away without you after a moment of inattention (which can be very dangerous for anyone in its way). Good snow wear, a beanie and a pair of goggles will be very helpful to you on the hill. When your bindings bolts come loose, its nice to have a mini pocket tool ready to go.Here is a list of the essential things we have forgot in the past. Twin Tip, Freestyle, Freeride, Race and Alpine. Whats the difference?

(Twin Tip) Freestlye & Freeride Snowboards  are very similar with a few differences.
You will be able to ride fakie (backwards) with both, since the tail (back end of the board) typically is bent upwards just like the nose (front of the board).
Freestyle boards usually have a Twin Tip shape, which makes riding fakie easier. Additionally, they tend to be wider and shorter than freeride boards, as well as softer and more flexible.
Freeride boards tend to be slightly slimmer and longer than freestyle boards, as well as less flexible. They also often have a “Setback” which means the nose is slightly longer than the tail. This enables you to float in powder with less effort, gives you better edge hold, and provides you with better control at high speeds.

Alpine/Race Snowboards are built for fast and aggressive carving on the slope. They have an asymmetrical shape (the tail is flat), which means that riding fakie with one would be an immense challenge. These boards are very slim and bindings are typically mounted at a high angle (pointing more towards the nose). Riders will usually wear hard-boots, and the tight sidecut makes carving super easy.

Twin Tip and Freestyle Whats the difference ?

Twin Tip & Freestlye - snowboards are basically the same.
You will be able to ride fakie (backwards) with both, since the tail (back end of the board) typically is bent upwards just like the nose (front of the board).. Additionally, they tend to be wider and shorter than freeride boards, as well as softer and more flexible. A twin tip board has a perfectly symmetrical nose and tail, in every way. Most freestyle boards have a twin tip shape. This shape makes riding switch/fakie significantly easier than with Freeride directional board. Most of the boards we sell are directinal twin for the best of both worlds.

Identical flex, shape, and weight at the nose and tail, a true twin snowboard performs the same whether you are riding regular or switch. If you like riding park, domes or jibbing, this snowboard shape is a great choice.

The best of both worlds, a directional twin is a mixture of a true twin shape and a directional flex and binding position. When riding switch you get the same snappy response, while turns and ollies are easier riding regular.

Flex & Stiffness rating of my Snowboard ?

Flex & Stiffness rating of my Snowboard ?

The Stiffness and flexibility of a snowboard is what is known in short as Stiffness flex.
Softer boards are easy to turn at slow speeds, and tend to be more forgiving towards mistakes. This makes them quite ideal for beginners as well as park-riders. However, at higher speeds they can become wobbly or Shaky, making them hard to control.
On the other hand, Stiffer boards are very stable at high speeds. For this reason, some good freestyle riders choose stiffer boards to have an easier time riding half pipe or hitting big jumps with lots of speed. Flex ratings are always determined by the producers themselves and are often only consistent within their own line. There is no given standard to measure flex, and so the flex between boards with the same rating might still vary. The majority of boards we carry are of a medium flex rating for the best of both worlds.

Sidecut Radius what is it ?

Sidecut Radius is the bow of the edge between the nose and tail of a snowboard, this curved is based off a giant circle, and this circle’s radius in meters is what is known as the sidecut-radius.
The depth of this bow/curve or the size of this circle has an effect on the turning properties of each board. The smaller the sidecut, the quicker a board will turn, at the price of becoming less stable at high speeds. A small sidecut-radius is very common in freestyle boards.
The larger the circle is, the flatter the edge will be. Boards with a larger sidecut offer more stability and a smoother ride at high speeds and on big long turns. However, it takes more effort and control to take small, quick turns, or to ride at slower speeds.Remember: deep sidecut – smaller radius, flat sidecut – Larger radius. It’s becoming more and more common for snowboard-makers to combine several different radii in one board to suit a certain riding style. Your best bet is to focus on the producer’s claims to each boards’ best area of application when choosing the right board for yourself.

Base Extruded Vs. Sintered what is it ?

Base Extruded Vs. Sintered what is it ?

Extruded Bases

Melted granules of plastic are heated and cooled before being rolled out in to a thin sheet to form the base. This base suits park riders, beginners and those on a tighter budget.

  • Cheaper to produce than a sintered base, making for a more affordable board.
  • Easier to repair gouges/damage.
  • Only a minimal drop off in performance when the board has no wax in it because it can only absorb a small amount in the first place.

Sintered

Large granules are compressed into a block and thin layers are skived off the block to make the base. Found in more expensive snowboards it is great for freeride terrain, intermediate/advanced riders and those who want the best performance. The higher the grade, the faster and harder the base will be. Some manufacturers will add additional elements to make the base even faster.

  • Holds more wax per inch than an extruded base (smaller grains packed together create more gaps in the base to absorb the wax).
  • More speed than an extruded base when waxed.
  • Is tougher than an extruded base so it is harder to damage/gouge.

Base / Bottom May Differ. What does this mean?

Simply put this means that the color way or graphic may be different.on the bottom ONLY. Top of board is what you see in the picture. The base may also just come a blank color. This will in most cases match the board unless noted on the item page. Most manufactures will make a model of snowboard with 1 image of topsheet graphic, and then 3 different color ways on the base/bottom graphic. We cant possible photo and track all the bases of our 2,000 boards in stock.

Blem , Seconds, Scratch & Dent. What does this mean?

Simply put this means that the item is Brand new and never riden but may have cosmetic flaws. These flaws may include open box, scratches, dents, dings, topcoat chipping. These items will structurally function as intended.  Please read the item you are purchasing to get a better understanding of that item. These items are sold as is with no returns. The discounted price and flawless functionality of our Blemished  items means you get optimum value for your money! After a few runs on the slopes most items will get flaws anyway.

Wide Boards – What is the right width ?

The toes and heel of your boots should just be hanging off the edge of the board by around half an inch. This lets you drive power into the edge when turning. If your boots hang off by any more than you may get toe or heel drag (the boot contacts the snow and removes pressure from your snowboard edge resulting in it slipping out from beneath you). If your feet hang over the edge too far, you’ll face some nasty toe/heel drag, which means your feet will drag along the snow, knocking you off balance, slowing you down or even lifting your edges off the snow! Tip* You can also adjust your stance to a duck foot stance to reduce overhang of toes. On the other hand, your feet don’t reach the edges of the board, applying pressure to the edges is much more challenging, and you might lose control!

Wide Boards-Those who happen to have large feet should definitely consider a “wide” board. As the name suggests, these boards are significantly wider than the boards tailored for average sizes (typically up to about U.S. size 12.5 or larger for men).

Length - Size What is the right size for me?

Choosing the right snowboard size can be difficult. Often opinions vary on how long or how short to go. Here at Winter-Warehouse we have come up with a simple solution to finding your perfect board size.

The first 3 things you always want to consider is your:Height , Weight, and Where You Spend your Time Riding.

Freestyle riders tend to prefer shorter boards because this reduces the weight for in-air spins and makes riding rails easier.

Freeriders will choose longer boards to provide them with more stability at speeds and for more float in deep powder. Additionally, longer edges will be more stable on ice.

Beginners tend to prefer shorter boards because this reduces the weight for in-air spins and makes riding rails easier.Less rail touching the snow makes turns way easier.

Expert   will choose longer boards to provide them with more stability at speeds and for more float in deep powder. Additionally, longer edges will be more stable on ice.

Discs 3 hole Vs. 4 hole. Does all binding fit on all board?

Usually the answer is yes, but there are a few exceptions. 99% of manufactures use 4-hole binding mounting pattern. Burton works with 3-hole insert pattern (some older pre-2014 snowboards) and with their channel system called EST-system. . Depending on the binding manufacturer some of them offer a multi-discs that fit different insert patterns.  There are some restrictions among fit, especially if the manufacturer uses a "micro disc". Best thing is to check the describtion on the bindings product page which insert patterns the binding will fit. If it only fits burton, it will say it in the description. Symbolic brand bindings comes with discs that fit 3-hole and 4-hole pattern boards.

Step-In Vs. Strap in Traditional Bindings ?

Step-In Vs. Strap in Traditional Bindings ?

Step-In System aka “Clicker” Bindings

A step-in system is a locking-mechanism between boots and bindings, that is activated by simply “stepping” into the binding. The different brands have developed a variety of different technologies that then allow you to conveniently exit the binding by pushing/pulling a lever or something similar.Note* this type of binding usually requires a special step in boot.
You can basically compare it to a ski-binding.

Strap in Traditional Bindings

Traditional strap binding systems excel in adjustability. You can ratchet them
as tight as you want them, quickly and easily. They don’t require boots that
fit perfectly. You can wear boots that are a little looser, and consequently
warmer and more comfortable. At the top of each run, riders will crank their
heel straps down tight to prevent heel lift, and before they get back on the
lift loosen their straps back up to restore circulation.

Bindings, Do they come as Pairs or Single ?

Bindings, Do they come as Pairs or Single? ?

Bindings always come as pairs. Mounting discs and screws are also included. Don’t forget to order a Leash and Stomp pad.

Leash for snowboard bindings- What is it?

A Snowboard Bindings leash attaches your front boot to your front binding. It prevents you from loosing your board if you were to become detached. This often happens when you are taking your boots out of your bindings, then the board runs down the mountain away from you. Most resorts also require them as a safety precaution.Best to buy them now, as most resorts charge double for them.Click here to Buy Leashes https://winter-warehouse.com/collections/leashes-and-locks

Stomp pad for Boot Traction- What is it?

Simply put this is a traction pad for you back foot. When you are going to get on the Chair lift, you will have your back boot out of the binding. When you get off the lift you put your back boot down on top of the board just in front of the back binding. This can be a slippery as ice on top of your snowboard. That is where your stomp pad goes, it provides traction so you don't slip off.

Most resorts also require them as a safety precaution.Best to buy them now, as most resorts charge double for them. Click here for Stomp Pads

Install Mount Bindings on to my board How To?

Install Mount Bindings on to my board How To?

The bindings are very easy to install. All you need is a phillips screwdriver. We supply the discs ,screws, etc with your bindings. Most bindings come with a set of 4x4 discs, with a total of 8 screws. They just screw in on top of the board that is pre-set with inserts. Make sure the screws are straight when hand screwing them in. Its very easy to strip the screws and board inserts if they are not straight. We inspect all inserts to make sure they are perfect before we send out our boards. We would recommend spacing the 2 bindings about shoulder width apart. We do not install the bindings on the boards before shipping. The reason for this is, they can get damaged in shipping.

Bindings Size adjustment - Too small - Too Big?

In most cases, bindings will need some type of custom adjustment before riding. Your bindings will have several adjustments that can be made to make them bigger. The toe and heel straps can be made longer. The toe straps can be moved forward. The Heel Cups can be moved back to extend the size. The Highback can be moved back and the toe plate can be moved farther out. Please try adjusting the bindings to fit you boots perfectly.

Toe and Heel Adjustments

Before you bolt your bindings to your board you want to make sure they fit your boots.  Strap your boot into the binding and check the overhangs. Ideally, you want your toe and heel overhang to be .5  to 1 inches.  Some bindings will have both toe and heel ramps that you can pull out to make the foot bed longer. If you are not in this range after adjusting the ramps you will need a different size binding.

Bringing the toe ramp out will also give you more leverage over your toe side turns and keep your boots from dragging in the snow.  Toe drag will cause you to slow way down and will throw you off balance.  Having better leverage over your toe side edge will help you turn more easily and more quickly.

Strap Adjustments

Most bindings have toe and ankle straps that secure your foot down using a ratchet system.  Both straps should be centered across the middle of your boot so that there is an equal amount of padding on each side.  If they are off center simply unscrew the strap and slide it up or down as much as necessary to center it, then tighten it back in.  Many bindings now have tool-less adjustments making it really easy to configure your binding without the need of a screw driver or hex key.

Highback Adjustments

Your highbacks help you make heel side turns more efficiently and with more power. Having them centered against the spine of your boot will give you the most bang for your buck.  Unfortunately, when you set up your binding angles and stance width the highbacks will usually end up positioned off center from the spine of your boot.  To correct this you can unscrew the highback (if your binding has this adjustment) and reposition it so that it lines up with the edge of your board.  Some bindings have asymmetrically shaped highbacks that are designed to support your heelside turns without making adjustments.

Another option on some highbacks is forward lean adjustment. There’s usually a lever, or some other type of release mechanism installed on highbacks that moves up and down.  Moving it down will position the highback to a forward angle resulting in the highback hitting the back of your boot sooner helping you turn a lot quicker.  Free riders may like this option because it allows them to get their board on edge very quickly.  This is a good thing when you’re bombing down the mountain at high speeds.  Moving the forward lean up will allow the highback to pivot all the way back giving the rider more time to set up his/her turn.  If you are starting out then it may be a good idea to ride with no forward lean.

Once you dial in your adjustments you will have a more efficient, safe, and fun riding experience, but this might take some experimentation.  Don’t be afraid to try different adjustments to figure out what is most comfortable and works best for you.

FAQ Skiing

Length – Size How long should my skis be ?

Ski length depends completely on the type of terrain you would like to ride in and on your level of skill:
If you would like to buy a pair of freestyle skis, they should reach somewhere between your full height or 10cm shorter.

If you’d prefer to spend more time in powder and backcountry, you should choose a pair of freeride skis! They must be at least as high as you are tall – skis that are up to 10cm larger than your full height are ideal. They will give you the best performance (and most fun) in powder.

Beginners should go for a shorter model, because they will find it easier to handle. Advanced to expert riders can choose their ski length according to their riding style and preferences. Please check out our skis size chart for more information. Click here for Size Chart

Poles – How long should my Poles be ?

Just like your skis, the length of your poles depends on your riding preferences:
If you’re headed for the park, you can use shorter poles that reach up to around your hip. For a regular day of freeski riding, however, we suggest you choose slightly longer poles.
Tip* Here’s a trick to choosing the right length: turn the pole upside down, place it on the floor and hold it under the disc. If it’s the right size, your elbows should be bent roughly at a right angle (90°). We have a chart below as a general guidline.
